Cut Edge Flower Beds. To edge a flower bed start by using a sharp knife trowel or spade to cut 4 to 6 inches into the dirt to mark the edge. Continue in the same way around the edge.
Mark cut the edge to establish a boundary between your lawn and garden bed lay out a string or mark the grass with spray paint. Remove the turf once you ve established your edge refine it with a spade deepening the cut to 4 to 6 inches. The loosened turf can then be removed easily by hand.

This will prevent grass from growing into the bed. Cutting neither too long nor too short then will help prevent erosion and stop roots from bulging into the bed.
